Chillicothe 5, at South Harrison 3 (12 innings)
     Chillicothe scored two runs in the top of the 12th inning to beat South Harrison 5-3 in Bethany. "We played very tight, too many errors, too many walks, a lot of young players" commented Coach Stan Baldwin. "We hit well, but not always at the right time, and we left 12 runners on base."
     South Harrison scored in the first inning, Chillicothe responded with runs in the second and third to lead 2-1. South Harrison scored twice in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-2 lead. Chillicothe tied it up in the sixth to force extra innings. Chillicothe Freshman Sarah Baldwin went the distance on the mound, allowing three unearned runs off three hits with four walks and 14 strike outs. Chillicothe also committed five errors in the game.
     At the plate, Elizabeth Osbon went 2/6 with 2 runs and an RBI, Sarah Baldwin went 3/5 with a run and two RBIs, Heather Doss went 3/5 with a run, Bailey Keith went 1/5 with an RBI, Sam Fender and Leanne Mathew each went 1/5 and Lindy Scott went 1/4 with a run scored. Chillicothe is at home Tuesday Sept. 2nd against St Joseph Lafayette.

       Chillicothe Softball games vs. Lafayette on Sept 2nd and Sept 4th at LeBlond were rained out.

Putnam County Tournament (3 games)

       Chillicothe went 3-0 and won the Putnam County Tournament on Saturday. Chillicothe beat South Harrison 5-1in the first round, upset top seed Kirksville 3-2 in the semifinals and beat second seed Putnam County 5-3 in eight innings in the championship game. Hornet Freshman Pitcher Sarah Baldwin picked up all three wins, scattering 11 hits over the three games, walking just three and striking out 38.

       Sarah Baldwin pitched a no-hitter and Chelsea Sturguess and Annie Turbyfill both had home runs to help Chillicothe to an 11-0 win over Cameron in five innings. Sturguess connected with a 3-run shot in the 1st inning while Turbyfill's home run came in the 5th inning. Chillicothe is now 5-0 overall and 1-0 in M.E.C. play

       For the second straight game, Sarah Baldwin pitched a no-hitter and Chelsea Sturguess and Annie Turbyfill both had home runs to help Chillicothe to a 12-0 win at Savannah in five innings. Sturguess and  Turbyfill's home runs came in the 5th inning. Chillicothe is now 6-0 overall

       Chillicothe continued to play a complete game with strong pitching and hitting to beat Marceline 9-0. Sarah Baldwin pitched her third straight shut out, allowing just one hit. She also hit a 2nd inning home run along with Annie Turbyfill who hit a 3rd inning home run. Chillicothe improves to 7-0 on the season.

       A pitchers dual went 11 innings before two errors gave Chillicothe a 2-1 win over Maryville in 11 innings at Chillicothe. After giving up a run in the top of the 11th, Chillicothe's Sarah Baldwin had a clutch hit in the bottom of the 11th, a walk, a double steal and two over throws at 3rd base gave Chillicothe the two runs and the win. Chillicothe is now 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play

       Chillicothe scored five runs in the top of the first to beat St Joseph Benton on the road 6-0 and remain undefeated on the season. Lady Hornets coach Stan Baldwin was pleased, stating "solid outings, solid pitching, good defense and pretty good hitting." Chillicothe is now 10-0 overall and 4-0 in MEC play.

Carthage Tournament - 3rd Place (4 games)
       Chillicothe finished 3rd in the 16-team Carthage Tournament, recognized as one of the most difficult tournaments in the state. "We did great at this tournament" proclaimed Lady Hornets coach Stan Baldwin. "My girls played their hearts out. They stepped up and played with some of the best teams in the State!."

       Chillicothe advanced to the District Championship game with a 7-1 win over Benton in St Joseph. "We hit well at the start of the game, but let up in the later innings" says Lady Hornets Coach Stan Baldwin. Chillicothe will face Maryville for the championship on Saturday. Chillicothe beat Maryville 2-1 in 11 innings in the regular season

District Finals - Chillicothe 8, Maryville 1
      
     Chillicothe won their fourth straight district softball title with an 8-1 win over second seed Maryville. "Great win!" proclaimed Chillicothe coach Stan Baldwin. "We beat up a very tough Maryville team." Chillicothe used a 3-hit performance from Freshman Pitcher Sarah Baldwin and a five run fifth inning to secure the win. Chillicothe hosts Platte County in sectional competition Wednesday

Sectionals - Platte County 3 at Chillicothe 0
       Chillicothe's Softball season came to an end with a 3-0 home sectional loss to Platte County. No game details were provided.


Post Season Honors

     Post season honors were handed out to the 21-4 Lady Hornet's Softball team. Chillicothe finished 2nd in conference and were district champions, falling in the first round to eventual state champion Platte County 3-0. Honored were: Chelsea Sturguess - Coaches Award, Sarah Baldwin - MVP award, Rochelle Gillilan - Most Improved Award, and Leanne Mathew - Hustle Award.  

      Several Chillicothe Softball Players were named to Conference and District teams:
