Chillicothe
used Bryce Young in the first half and determination in the
second half to beat Excelsior Springs 51-47 and advance to the
Cameron Tournament consolation finals.
Chillicothe scored the first five points of the game
but followed that with an eight point run by Excelsior
Springs. The Tigers led by 11 early in the second quarter when
Coach Matt Brownsberger took a time out to talk with his team.
They responded with a 14-3 run to tie the game and were down
by just three at halftime, 30-27. Bryce Young scored 25 of the
27 first half points for the Hornets including going four of
four from behind the three point arc..
Much of the third quarter was a back and forth game
before the turning point in the game late in the third
quarter. An Excelsior Springs grabbed a defensive
rebound but was called for a technical foul for throwing an
elbow. Chillicothe hit both free throws and scored on the
inbounds play for a 4-0 run. The Tigers were hit with another
technical foul a minute later when one of their players was
called for hanging on the rim following a missed slam dunk
attempt. The Hornets led by four heading into the final
quarter and never trailed again.
Chillicothe made things interesting in the fourth
quarter, going just 3/10 at the free throw line. The Tigers
missed both of their free throws in the fourth quarter.
