Chillicothe needed overtime, after giving up a 12 point
halftime lead, to beat Putnam County at the N.C.M.C. Holiday
Hoops in Trenton. Chillicothe went on a 10-0 run in the first
and early second quarter to help build a 31-19 halftime lead.
Putnam County closed the gap to two points by the end of the
third quarter.
After leading only once after the opening shot of the
game, Putnam County's Conor Middleton hit the Midget's only
trey in 14 team attempts, sinking it from the right wing with one
second left to send the game into overtime. Two Zach Douglas
free throws were countered with a Blane Robinson bucket to tie
the game again.
The turning point of the game came moments later when
the Hornets' Blake Stephens missed a short jumper from the left wing. Alex
Thompson grabbed the offensive board on the weak side for the
Hornets, stuck it back in and drew the foul. Thompson's one
shot at the line was good for the three point play and the
Hornets never trailed again. Key free throws down the final
two minutes by Bryce Young, Zach Douglas and Blake Stephens
helped seal the Hornets second win of the season.
Chillicothe will play Richmond on Tuesday the 29th at
8:30pm at N.C.M.C. |
