Bryce Young
Reaches Basketball Milestone |
Chillicothe's
star athlete Bryce Young crossed another sports milestone, this time
becoming just the 7th player in Chillicothe Boys Basketball history
to score more than 1,000 points in a career. The 5'10" Senior guard
hit the milestone in typical Bryce Young fashion.
With 1:33 left in the contest against Macon, Young
sliced to the basket for a quick jumper but was fouled. Young's
teammates had been keeping track of the point total when Senior post
player Brett Stephens informed Young that "if you hit these two free
throws, you've got 1,000." Young toed the line and calmly hit both
free throws to reach the mark. Young hit one more bucket before
sitting down for the remainder of the contest.
Hornets coach Matt Brownsberger says Young is a fun player to
watch. "He's got that ability to really keep us in ball games and
take games over at times." Brownsberger stated the milestone was
somewhat bittersweet, coming during the end of a 71-62 home loss to
Macon. "I know how bad he wants to win" stated Brownsberger, who
presented Young with the game ball at center court at the end of the
contest.
Young joins an elite group of basketball talent as the
7th member of the Hornets 1,000 points club. Young joins Justin
Bland (2,269 points 1994-98), Mitch Parrish (2,124 points 1978-82),
Eric Hemmer (1,830 points 1992-96), Jerry Parrish (1,503 points
1957-60), the late Chuck Hinchey (1,420 points 1975-78) and David
White (1,021 points 1986-1990) as the only players in the 100 year
history of Hornets Basketball to score more than 1,000 points in
their varsity career. Young also joins David White as the only
athletes in Chillicothe history to have more than 3,000 career
rushing yards in football and more than 1,000 points in basketball.
