The
Chillicothe Lady Hornets built a 4th quarter lead
then held on to upend
#4 seed Excelsior Springs 38-36 in the opening round of the
Kearney Girls Tournament.
Chillicothe
led by three at halftime and led by nine early in the fourth
quarter before turning cold. The Lady Tigers put together a
9-0 run to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Chillicothe’s
Leanne Mathew hit one free throw to lead by one. Excelsior
Springs then had two chances at the free throw line with six
seconds left but missed both shots. Chillicothe’s Rochelle
Gillilan grabbed the rebound and was fouled, making one of two
free throws with two seconds left to secure the win. All nine
of Excelsior Springs’ points in the fourth quarter came from
Lexa Palomerz. |
