at Benton 63, Chillicothe 30
(Conference Game)
The
Benton Lady Cardinals used their quickness and free throws to
pull away from Chillicothe in the second quarter.
Chillicothe led briefly 5-2 in the first quarter before
Benton Senior Shelbee Cox started things rolling, scoring
Benton's first eight points of the game. After falling behind
5-2, Benton went on a 14-0 run in the first and early second
quarters. The Lady Cardinals used their defensive quickness to
pick up steals and force Chillicothe turnovers.
Chillicothe Senior Kaley Hayward sunk a baseline trey
to stop the Benton run but it would be the last time the
Benton lead was single digits. The lady Cardinals led by as
many as 36 points in the fourth quarter.
Chillicothe coach Karen Jackson said one bright
spot was the outside shooting, with Shannon Baker nailing
three treys, Leanne Mathew and Kaley Hayward each sunk one and
Samantha Fender, Kelsey Hicks and Maddie Williams all
attempting treys.
The lady Hornets were without starter Devin Crowe for
the second straight game, who is recovering from illness.
Crowe was on the bench but not dressed out. |
