4/6/10 Chillicothe
7, at KC Lutheran 2 |
The lady Hornets playing their second game in two nights had
something to prove after a loss to
Benton
on Monday. They came out playing fairly well but a well placed 35
to 40 yard shot by KC Lutheran put the lady Hornets down 1-0 and
were able to keep some pressure on the ball. Chillicothe starting 4
freshman and down one due to Brooke Thomas’s banged up knee from
Monday, were able to do some things right but as a team were not
able to get the ball in the net. Shortly going into the game
freshman Sarah Hussey was drilled by the ball in the head, making
her dizzy and suffering from a concussion, had to leave the game.
She had already had some good runs and was marking the wing player
for KC. At about the 20th minute mark, Rochelle Gillilan
entered the game, missing Monday’s, and made an immediate impact by
scoring in the 25th minute tying the game on an
unassisted strike past the Lady Knights keeper. With her presence,
the tie of the game switched as far as the possession went allowing
for
Chillicothe
to outshoot their opponent 15 to 7 in the first half, with Lacey
Nibarger placing a good shot past the keeper in the 35th
minute on a good ball from Jordan Gardner. The down side of the
shots taken was the lack of them going in, but that changed in the
second half as Chillicothe carried a 2-1 lead going in.
Chillicothe
entered the second half on a frenzy as they scored 5 goals in 25
minutes to put the game out of hand. The Lady Knights would get
their second goal in the 72nd minute as Chillicothe had
moved the defense and midfield personal around, allowing for
everyone to get some valuable game time. The highlight of the
second half was seeing the freshman get some action close to the
goal, with Cyrsten Lollar becoming a magician by getting the ball
through a small area at an odd angle to collect her second goal of
the season, assisted by fellow frosh Leslee Moore, who also
collected her first varsity goal. Sophomore Anna Leutticke getting
her first assist of the season, along with Madeline Brick and Lacey
Nibarger getting goals and Rochelle Gillilan netting a hat trick.
