It
only took
Maryville 26 seconds to win this game and get their
first goal. The whistle sounded and Chillicothe’s center midfield
and center defense did not attack the ball, leaving a one on one
situation with the goalkeeper, where she just stayed on the line and
let them take a shot. It only went down hill from there and
Maryville continued to pound the net. It was very evident that the
4 games in 5 days, plus Prom weekend took a heavy toll on legs early
as the majority of players were wore out. With 30 minutes on the
books it was 5-0 and evident the lady Hornets had no gas in the
tank, the substitutions started and at half most of the starters
were on the bench and Cyrsten Lollar had replaced Me. Brick in
goal. The young Lady Hornets did ok against most of the starting
Spoofhounds as it was late in the game before they worked all of
their players in.
I do want to acknowledge Margaret Weed as she played tough in
defense alongside Laura Turner who played midfield and defense,
gaining valuable minutes and showing good things. Anna Leutticke
made some good runs up top and Lollar gained valuable game time in
goal and had played well in defense as well.
With one days rest, the Lady Hornets will meet a tough Excelsior
Springs team on Thursday at 5:00 in Chillicothe.
