The Lady
Hornets were definitely ready to play tonight as they came out
playing from the whistle, but once again struggled getting the ball
in the goal. It was not until the 35th minute that
Brooke Westcott laid the ball to Lacey Nibarger, who then squeaked
it past the Lafayette keeper for the score. The tides were turned
tonight as Chillicothe had the shot advantage of 19 to 2 in the
first half, much different than against LeBlond. The LH were playing
into combinations and using the left wing a lot to build the attack,
which definitely was different than they had been doing and was a
welcomed sight. The LH shut down the attack of the Lady Irish and
controlled the ball the majority of the half, just missing with some
passes that had the intentions of being there for a score.
The second
half seemed to come alive a little on both sides where
Chillicothe
scored 3, but allowed the Lafayette 2.
Chillicothe
struck in the 49th minute where Rachel Gillilan carried the ball
most of the field to beat the keeper on a hard shot. Gillilan was
flanked by Madeline Brick all the way which helped pull defenders
away just enough. It would only take 2 minutes for Madeline Brick
to score and pick up
Chillicothe’s
3rd goal. Lafayette made a move to change keepers bringing a very
fast and rested player into the attack, which paid dividends for
them as Sam Wood was making a run for goal was challenged from
behind and brought down in the penalty area by Catherine Tipton,
allowing Wood to step to the spot for a penalty kick. She nailed
the ball that was partly blocked by Me. Brick, but still made it
past her. The LH would score once more on one of the prettiest
plays all season for them as Madeline Brick played a good ball to
the right side that Kylie Barton had to work hard to keep in bounds,
made a couple touches and sent a great ball across finding Gillilan
feet and sliding it past the Lafayette keeper. Lafayette was not
through though as Wood caught up to a through ball, being heavily
defended by Echo Followwill and still managed to get a shot off past
Me. Brick for their second and last goal. As time ended the LH
would even their record at 6-6, with the win.
It was very
good to see Addie Stottlemyre playing well after an off night
against LeBlond. Followwill found her old form once again, working
to win balls and playing tough. Brooke Westcott had her first
assist and played well in the midfield, almost getting her first
career goal a couple times. Sarah Hussey stepped it up and played
very tough and determined in the center midfield. Another freshman
Brooke Thomas was there to let Lafayette know they would be
challenged for every ball that was around her. Jordon Gardner made
several good runs in the first half, spreading the defense and
allowing scoring chances.
