It doesn’t happen that often where it comes down to an offensive
struggle in soccer, but tonight it did. The lady Hornets found
themselves in a battle with the Lady Cardinals of Benton, but this
time an offensive one with a total of 12 goals scored. Tonight saw
a hat trick plus one by Madeline Brick as she beat the keeper one on
one 3 times and a 20 yard rocket for a total of 4 goals. Tonight
Madeline finally saw and did what she has been coached all year, she
did not try to put the ball through the keeper, but finessed her way
around her. This was by far her best offensive game that I as her
coach have seen. Her goals were assisted by Sarah Hussey in the 15th
minute, Brooke Westcott in the 50th minute and Leslee
Moore in the 77th minute. Her partner up front, Rochelle
Gillilan, also added a pair. Unless you have watched several of the
Lady Hornet games, you would not see how much defensive pressure
Rochelle gets on the field, allowing for other players like
Madeline. Brick to have a good night, as she draws a double and
triple team most of the time opening the door for other things to
happen if the ball is played right.
Sarah Hussey also scored her first varsity goal in the 25th
minute. It was almost saved by the keeper, but was counted as she
fell back towards the goal, allowing the ball to cross the line. I
might add that Sarah had a good game with an assist and goal, but
played well on the defensive side as well. My hat is off to her as
well, since she played most of the game not feeling well. Along
with Madeline Brick and Leslee Moore who both were struggling with
colds.
Benton had a lot of fight in them and always seem to
battle back, Chillicothe seemed to have it sowed up with a three
goal lead but two quick goals by Benton in the 50th and
52nd minute tightened it up once again, 4-5. LH scored
in the 59th minute to go up 6-4, but
Benton
answered back in the 65th minute making it 6-5, but the
LH scored once again in the 77th minute putting icing on
the cake for the 7-5 win. Chillicothe out shot Benton 34 to 27.
Lacey Nibarger and Echo Followwill both had good games, with Lacey
made god passes to set up the attack and Echo stepping up and
beating Benton to the ball. Cyrsten Lollar played well coming off
the bench and gained some valuable playing time.
