There will be no post season for the Chillicothe girls tennis team.
The Lady Hornets finished in a tie for 5th in the 12-team district
tennis tournament. No Chillicothe individual or doubles team placed
high enough to qualify for the state tournament. Grain Valley were
district champions with 28 points, Marshall had 26 points,
Warrensburg with 17.5, Higginsville with 14.5 and Chillicothe and
Excelsior Springs with 13.5 each.
Qualifying for the State Singles tournament were Katelyn Barr
of Grain Valley and Danielle Wells of Warrensburg. Qualifying for
the State Doubles Tournament were Virginia Hutcherson and Haley
Evans of Marshall and Melissa Bueker and Laura Sappington of
Higginsville.
For Chillicothe: #1 singles Meredith Brick had a first
round bye, defeated Ariel Hard of Richmond in the second round 6-3,
7-5 then lost to Danielle Wells in the third round 4-6, 3-6. #2
ingles Laura turner defeated Sara Dinwiddie of Lexington in the
first round 6-3, 7-6 (5) then lost to Amy Van of Marshall in the
second round 1-6, 6-4, 1-6.
#1 doubles Madeline Brick and Jordan Gardner had
a first round bye, defeated Alexandra Lackey and Stephanie Colvin of
Warrensburg 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 then lost to Virginia Hutcherson and Haley
Evans of Marshall in the third round 1-6, 1-6. #2 doubles Juleah
Littrell and Kelsey Jones defeated Rebecca turner and Shelby
Silkwood of Carrollton in the first round 6-4, 6-1, then lost
to Allea Summers and Skylar Simpson of Marshall in the second round
5-7, 6-2, 3-6.
