The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team opened up their season
with a tough 1-0 loss to a solid St. Joe Lafayette squad.
Chillicothe could not capitalize on a stiff wind at their backs and
ended the first half with the score knotted at 0. The second half
produced more of the same as Chillicothe put seven shots on goal but
to no avail. With 14 minutes left in the contest a communication
breakdown on the back line allowed Irish forward Ciarah Calloway to
put a shot just over the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Cyrsten
Lollar, which glanced off the top bar and into the net for the only
score of the game. The Lady Hornets managed three more shots toward
the end of regulation but could not put anything into the net. Coach
Lance Harvey was very pleased with the effort given by his players
in their first outing noting that the midfield and forwards did a
good job of pressuring the traditionally defensively strong Lady
Irish. Chillicothe is back in action on Friday with a 4:00 home game
against Kirksville at Danner Park.
