Despite losing three starters to injuries early in the game,
the Hornets relied on the running of Senior Fullback Nick
Plummer and the Defense of Senior Defensive Back Kale Allen to
beat St Joseph LeBlond 35-12.
Chillicothe lost Linebacker Connor Dixon, Tight
End/Safety/Punter/ Return man Alex Thompson and Tight
End/Defensive End Spencer Hart early in the game due to
separate injuries. Gabe Jeffries (Jr) and Eric Rutledge (So)
filled in at the tight end positions, DJ Gannan filled in on
defense with numerous adjustments made to overcome the three
lost starters.
The Hornets line had good success controlling the line
of scrimmage, with Nick Plummer bulling his way to 192 yards
on 27 carries and three touchdowns. The Hornets stuck with the
ground and pound game, attempting just two passes and
completing one.
On the make-shift defense, the Hornets continued to
dominate the line, while Senior Cornerback Kale Allen had two
interceptions including one inside the ten yard line that he
returned to mid field. Allen had a third pick in the end zone
but it was called back due to a Hornets penalty at the line of
scrimmage.
The Hornets led 21-6 at the half, and the final LeBlond
score was on the final play of the game, set up by a Hornets
penalty.
Chillicothe is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in MEC play.
