It was an offensive showdown as Benton rolled up 369 yards in
offense and Chillicothe picked up 378 yards, but in the end it
was turnovers that was the difference. Chillicothe threw three
interceptions, including two in the end zone to halt scoring
drives.
After St Joseph Benton stopped Chillicothe's opening
drive, the Cardinals went 75 yards in 9 plays for the score.
Chillicothe had a chance to score on their next drive but a
halfback pass on the 2 yard line on 4th and goal was
intercepted in the end zone.
Trailing 13-0, Chillicothe scored on a 56 yard Guy
Vinson run, but the Hornets had no answer for Benton
Quarterback Matt Pritchett who passed for his second touchdown
in the half and led 19-7 at intermission.
Chillicothe successfully ran a pooch kick to start the
2nd half and recovered it. Jake Mathew, who started the game
at Quarterback, found QB turned Tight End Jacob Lewis for a 19
yard touchdown.
The teams traded turnovers, Benton a fumble deep in
their own territory and Chillicothe their second interception
in the end zone. The Hornets scored late in the 3rd on a Nick
Plummer 12 yard run, and had a chance in the fourth quarter
but couldn't find the end zone.
Matt Pritchett was the workhorse for Benton with 129
yards passing and 77 yards rushing. For Chillicothe, Fullback
Nick Plummer had 234 yards rushing and Guy Vinson had 101
yards on the ground. |
