Chillicothe
was their own worst enemy, losing six turnovers and 55 penalty
yards in a 42-12 loss to St Pius X in Chillicothe. The Hornets
threw three interceptions and lost three fumbles including a St
Pius on-sides kick off midway through the fourth quarter, while
Pius was leading by 30 points.
Pius scored on their second drive that was kept alive
by a fake punt that picked up a first down. The Hornets
responded with a kick off return down to the 25 yard line but their drive stalled on the
three yard line
thanks to a penalty. Two plays later, a 30 yard field goal was no
good.
Chillicothe put together a 13 play, 39 yard scoring
drive in the second quarter to move to with-in one point, but the
Hornet defense had no answer for the Warriors balanced
offense. Pius scored again in the 2nd on a one yard run, then
intercepted a Jacob Lewis pass on Chillicothe's very first
play after kick-off. That set up another scoring drive and
Pius led 21-6 at the half.
Chillicothe fumbled again on their first drive of the second half. The
Hornets got the ball back on an Alex Thompson interception,
but their drive was once again stopped due to a Pius
interception.
The Warriors continued to rack up four straight scoring
drives to blow open the game 35-6. Chillicothe answered with a
30 yard touchdown pass to make it 35-12 but Pius scored yet
again in the fourth that was set up by a 55 yard pass down to
the three.
The Warriors, up 42-12, attempted an onsides kick off.
A Chillicothe Hornet touched the ball that was then recovered
by St Pius.
Chillicothe ends the season at 4-6 while Pius is 6-4
and will face unbeaten Richmond in regional play on
Wednesday. |
