Chillicothe
scored twice in the fourth then had to pitch out of a 6th inning jam
to beat Smithville 2-0 in a sectional game at Danner Park. It marked
just the second state tournament win in the program history.
After scoring in the top of the 4th inning to take the
2-0 lead, Smithville threatened in the bottom of the 6th. The first
batter reached base due to what Chillicothe Coach Stan Baldwin
called "a mental error". The second batter doubled to put runners on
first and second with no out. Lady Hornets Ace Sarah Baldwin then
started throwing strikes to pitch her way out of the inning.
Chillicothe (25-4) heads to Boonville (19-9) on
Saturday at 1:00pm for the quarterfinal game.
