Chillicothe's
Point Guard Nic Voorhies (Sr) hit a jumper from the left high post
at the buzzer to give the Hornets a 62-60 win at Macon. The victory
is the fourth in a row, the first time Chillicothe has put together
a 4-game winning streak in six years (Feb 4, 2005).
The buzzer beater gave Chillicothe just their second
lead of the game. The Hornets started slow and trailed by 11 points
in the second quarter before ending on a 10-0 run to trail by 1.
Macon built the lead back to 8 before Chillicothe led
briefly in the middle of the third quarter. After Macon led by 5,
Chillicothe tied the game at the end of the third.
The Hornets tied the game on a Jacob McKiddy baseline
lay-up with 1:17 left. Macon's Jake Linear (5'11 Sr) hit 2 of his 14
points with 51 seconds to take a 2 point lead. Next it was Tyler
Midgyett with a low post tip in with 30 seconds left to tie it up
again.
Following a time out, Macon's Linear tried the low post
again but missed, and Chillicothe grabbed the board with 16 seconds
left. With the game tied, Coach Tim Cool elected to led the boys
finish it on their own.
Voorhies looked off a left baseline opportunity,
dribbled up to the free throw line and with a second left, calmly
hit a jumper at the buzzer that was nothing but net, to give the
Hornets the win. |
