For the
second time in 3 games this week, Hornet Senior Nic Voorhies hit a
shot that gave Chillicothe a win, this time a right wing jumper with
3 seconds left to give the Hornets a 52-50 win at South Harrison.
The Bulldogs, coached by Chillicothe Alumnus Josh
Gannan, led much of the first three quarter and enjoyed an 8-point
lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, with around a minute
and a half left in the third, Chillicothe's head coach was whistled
for a technical foul.
As the Hornets began the fourth quarter, the shots
started falling, the full court press started working, and by the
time the Bullddogs hit their first shot of the fourth quarter, the
Hornets had gone on a 13-0 run and led by 5 with 3:34 left in the
game.
South Harrison fought back to take a one point lead,
lost the lead moments later and finally tied the game with 55
seconds left on a free throw. The second one by reserve Colton Clark
missed and Chillicothe grabbed the board.
After milking the clock down and following a time
out, it was again Voorhies that was called upon for last second
heroics. The Senior's final bucket of a 21-point night came with 3
seconds left on a shot from the right wing, just inside the
three-point line that drew nothing but net.
After a South Harrison time out with 2.7 seconds left,
the Bulldogs worked the ball to half court but missed on a long
range bomber, giving the Hornets their 5th win on the season,
already eclipsing the win total of all of last
season.
