The Chillicothe
Hornets put together a solid four quarters of basketball and beat
Maryville 52-42 in a conference game at Chillicothe. The win marked
the first conference win since February 2nd 2010 and the first win
over Maryville since 2009.
Maryville's Payton Scarbrough was hot in the first
quarter, picking up 13 of the team's 17 points. However, the Hornets
increased their defense and Scarbrough was then held to one basket
in the 2nd quarter and a trey at the end of the game. Chillicothe
picked up the pace in the second quarter, holding Maryville
scoreless most of the quarter and went on a 13-0 run to end the half
with a 9 point lead. After Scarbrough hit his first three treys, the
Maryville team went 0-13 from the outside until the final trey at
the buzzer.
Maryville closed the gap to four points late in the
third but a bucket at the end of the third and one to start the
fourth put the Hornets up by eight and the game was never in doubt
after that.
Chillicothe, playing their best four quarters of
defense this season, held Maryville scoreless for more than four
minutes in the fourth, up until a Scarbrough trey at the buzzer.
