The Chillicothe
Hornets turned stone cold in the second quarter and fell to the
Lawson Cardinals 70-55 in the Cameron Tournament. Chillicothe led
much of the first quarter before giving up a 6-0 run to trail by 3
at the end of the first.
Chillicothe hit a basket to start the second quarter
and cut the lead to one, but Lawson Senior Garrison Green hit back
to back treys in the opening minute to give his team a 7 point lead
and the Cardinals never trailed again. The Cardinals outscored
Chillicothe 21-4 in the second quarter, with Chillicothe's only
points coming from Nic Voorhies on a basket and two free throws.
Lawson had the taller players but it was no advantage,
with their 6'7" Senior hitting just four points and their 6'5"
player also scoring just two baskets.
With a 13 point lead and less than 30 seconds left,
Lawson left their starters in the game and found it necessary to
drive the baseline and score their final bucket with 10 seconds
left.
