The Chillicothe Hornets took the lead before the clock even started
and polished off St Joseph Benton 68-45 for their 12th win of the
season. A packed house watched the Hornets dismantle the Benton
Cardinals during the annual Jam the Gym night.
The game
started when Benton was called for a Technical Foul due to a
scorebook error. Chillicothe's Nic Voorhies hit one of two free
throws and the Hornets were off an rolling.
Chillicothe was hot in the first half, unofficially
shooting 72% from the floor in an 18 of 25 performance. The shots
cooled off in the second half but the Hornets led 45-22 at the half
and by 20 or more most of the 2nd half. In a show of good
sportsmanship, Chillicothe milked the final three minutes off the
clock with out shooting.
Chillicothe used hot outside shooting to pull
away in the first half. The Hornets shot 8 of 14 from behind the arc
with four different players hitting a trey.
The 68 points are the most scored since Chillicothe
scored 68 exactly three years ago in a loss to Smithville.
