(Story by Lance Harvey)
For the second straight game Chillicothe
women's soccer had to go to overtime in order to decide the outcome.
However this game's result came out in favor of Chillicothe as the
Hornets scored quickly in OT to set the final score at 5-4. Monday's
game against Benton was close throughout as both teams scored 4
goals in regulation.
Benton scored
first in the 4th minute but Chilli answered four minutes later when
Sarah Hussey collected a pass from Kylie Barton and pushed the ball
past the keeper. Benton went up a goal two minutes later and once
again the Lady Hornets answered.
Midfielder
Leslee Moore settled a ball that was pinballing around in the box
and cooly sent it into the back of the net. With one minute left in
the half Chillicothe scored once more as Barton sent a nice cross
into the penalty area and Hussey hit a volley that lofted over the
goalkeepers head for her second goal of the game.
In second half Benton tied the game on a laser from
from forward Paige Kneale to make the score 3-3. Not to be outdone,
Chillicothe's Lindy Saunders beat the defense and launched a deep
shot that blew past the keeper.
Chillicothe
continued to control the ball until the final minute when Benton was
awarded a corner kick. The Lady Hornets were caught sleeping and
Benton headed the ball over the keeper into the goal to send the
game to overtime.
Not
wanting to go to a second straight penalty kick contest, the Lady
Hornets made short work of the Lady Cardinals. Three minutes in to
OT Chillicothe capitalized on their fierce offensive as Saunders
finished off a Leslee Moore cross to end the game.
"It was an outstanding performance for our team. We
came back from adversity and finally got a couple of breaks. Good
things happen when you take advantage of opportunities." said Coach
Lance Harvey.
