Chillicothe Senior DJ Gannan watched his three point shot at the buzzer rim out as the Hornets fell to a much improved Excelsior Springs team. The Tigers turned the ball over with 9 seconds left when a player stepped out of bounds. The Hornets brought the ball down court and Wade Dietz fired the ball to Gannan who was open on the left wing. Gannan's shot at the buzzer went half way down the goal then pin balled back out.
     The Hornets had their moments, leading by 8 points midway through the 3rd quarter, but fell on hard times, down by 1 at the end of the quarter and after a 19-3 Excelsior Springs run, found themselves now down by 8 points. Chillicothe whittled the lead down to 2 points twice, but came up short.
     The statistics shows the closeness of the game with both teams shooting well: Chillicothe 54% inside to Excelsior Springs 57%, Chillicothe had one more trey than the Tigers, Chillicothe was 12/14 from the free throw line compared to the Tigers 15 of 20. Excelsior Springs had 6 more rebounds while Chillicothe had 5 fewer turnovers.
