The Chillicothe
Hornets used smart team play and a strong defense to beat St Joseph
LeBlond 42-31 in the MEC opening game. It marks the first time
Chillicothe Hornets have been 1-0 in MEC play in 10 years.
The same two teams met in the Savannah Tournament
in late November. In that game, Chillicothe went a six and a half
minutes with out scoring and were out-rebounded. This game marked a
180 degree turn around. The Eagles were held scoreless for nearly
six and a half minutes in the first quarter and were out-rebounded
by the Hornets.
LeBlond's Jacob
Madden scored the first basket 20 seconds into the game. Chillicothe
answered with a Nate McKiddy bucket followed by back to back treys
by Trent Moore and Tyler Clampitt to take a lead they would never
give up.
Chillicothe led
by eight at the half and by six after three. LeBlond whittled the
lead down to three, but Chillicothe battled back on a 9-2 run to
secure the win.
