In a familiar
story this season, the Chillicothe Hornets went on a cold streak and
couldn't recover. This time it was a 10-0 run given up in the late
third and early fourth quarter that gave Kirksville a 52-42 win.
Chillicothe was down by three after one but turned in a
solid 2nd quarter to lead by four at the half. The Hornets has a
three point lead late in the third but turned cold, giving up a 10-0
run that gave Kirksville a 7 point lead. The Hornets knocked the
lead to three points but could get no closer. Kirksville outscored
Chillicothe 20-11 in the fourth quarter. The Hornets had only three
free throw attempts in the entire game compared to Kirksville's 14
attempts. Chillicothe also had no defensive answer for Kirksville's
inside game of Chris Tenpenny and Tyson Grgurich, who combined for
31 of the team's 52 points.
It marked the
second straight year that Kirksville put together a solid fourth
quarter to beat the Hornets.
The Hornets are now with out another player. David
Hershberger left the team on Friday, becoming the third player to
leave the team this season.
