The Chillicothe Hornets
played perhaps their best game of the season, but came up short on
Senior Night, losing to Cameron 53-50. The free throw line was the
Dragon's friend, shooting 9 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets shot just one free throw the entire second half.
Cameron also used the outside shooting of Carter
Morrison, who made 6 of ten from behind the arc, but missed his
final three attempts and stopped shooting completely early in the
fourth quarter.
The Dragons used the trey to open up leads but
each time Chillicothe fought back with treys of their own,
sound defense and good team play. The Hornets had a trey from Ryan
Smith early in the fourth to tie the game, but Cameron's Mikey
Thompson hit his only trey from the left wing to retake the lead,
and Chillicothe would trail the rest of the game.
The large and vocal crowd got their money's
worth, with neither team leading by more than six points during the
game. Chillicothe closed the game to two points on Smith's third
trey of the night with 10.6 seconds left. Cameron's Colton Boyer
missed the only free throw of the night for Cameron but made his
second for a three point lead with 10 seconds left. Chillicothe
couldn't get the three point shot to fall at the buzzer.
With the win, Cameron improves to 18-7 and is the
#1 seed in their Class 3 district next week. Chillicothe falls to
7-16 and heads to Marshall on Tuesday for the final regular season
game.
