Chillicothe had a strong second half to
beat St Joseph Benton 6-0 and win the Excelsior Springs Soccer
Tournament. Chillicothe led 1-0 at halftime but scored five goals in
the second half. The tournament was decided by a point system and
not the normal bracketed tournament.
Chillicothe's Steven Cooper scored in the 5th minute
off a Wade Dietz assist for the 1-0 lead that held up the rest of
the first half. Chillicothe's next goal came off a Chase Reeter
penalty kick in the 45th minute. The score opened the flood gates
with Derek Hussey scoring off a Grant Peterson assist in the 50th
minute, Cooper's second goal off a Hussey assist in the 56th minute,
Brice Griffin off a Brandon Murray assist in the 65th minute and
Peterson off a Murray assist in the 72nd minute. Goalkeeper Troy
Toedebusch had 2 saves for the Hornets.
Chillicothe Boys Soccer is now 10-2 with 10 shut outs.
