The Chillicothe Hornets soccer team
won the Mexico Tournament and set a new school record. The Hornets
won both games of the one-day tournament to improve to 12-3 overall,
breaking the record for wins in a season set last year.
Chillicothe opened with a 3-0 win over Elsberry. Chase
Reeter scored off a Grant Peterson assist in the third minute
followed by Brice Griffin scoring off a Trey VanHoutan assist in the
25th minute to lead 2-0 at intermission. Griffin scored again in the
68th minute off a Peterson assist for the final score. Keeper Troy
Toedebusch had six saves on goal.
In the championship game, Chillicothe downed Mexico
4-2. Steven Cooper opened the scoring in the 11th minute off an
assist from Jon Kline. One minute later, Derek Hussey scored off a
Brice Griffin assist. The Hornets’ Chase Reeter scored on a free
kick in the 34th minute to lead 3-0 at intermission
Christian McKeown scored for Mexico in the 46th and
48th minute, but Reeter scored an insurance goal on a penalty kick
in the 73rd minute for the victory. Toedebusch had 4 saves on goal.
