1/5/2013 at Kirksville 47, Chillicothe 46
The
Chillicothe Lady Hornets played a strong game but in the end
came up on free throw short, losing 47-46 at Kirksville.
Chillicothe had a tough stretch in the first quarter to
trail by six at the end of the first quarter. After being down
by ten twice in the second quarter, they tied the game twice
in the third. A trey by Kirksville at the end of the third
gave them a four point lead.
Chillicothe was down by 9 points early in the fourth
but battled back thanks to the inside play and free throw
shooting of Maggie Graves and Sam McKiddy.
Chillicothe hit back to back buckets to trim the game to two
points, then Graves hit one of two free throws to make it a
one point game with 11.2 seconds left. Five seconds later
Kirksville appeared to make two free throws and took a time
out, but the officials had waved off the second free throw due
to a lane violation, making it a two point Lady Tigers lead.
With 1.7 seconds left, Chillicothe's Sam McKiddy missed
a lost post jumper but was fouled. She made the first free
throw, but the second attempt hit off the front of the rim. A
fight for the rebound milked the rest of the time off the
clock.
Kirksville's 6-1` Nicole Cook started the game strong
with 6 points in the first quarter, but picked up two quick
fouls and sat most of the rest of the game on the bench,
finishing with 8 points.
