Lady Hornets Basketball
2/18/2013
at Chillicothe 68, Marshall 39
It took a few minutes and two Marshall
baskets for the Chillicothe Lady Hornets to wake up, but after
that it was complete domination in a 68-39 Senior Night win
for the Lady Hornets.
After Marshall jumped out to a 4-0 lead, Chillicothe
engineered and 11-0 run that gave them a lead they would never
give up. The Lady Hornets led by double figures for most of
the final three quarters.
It was a night were the team was firing on all figures.
Senior Sam McKiddy played her best game of the season with 13
of her 15 points coming in the first half. Junior Erin
Gilliland used her quickness to steal the ball almost at will,
and ended the night with 12 points.
Chillicothe built a 35-18 lead by halftime, and Senior
Madison Williams turned into a octopus on the court, dishing
out assists to her teammates, driving to the basket herself
and playing tough defense. While her point total was only 7,
her contributions to the win were countless
The Lady Hornet's Maggie Graves was a frequent visitor to the
free throw line, hitting 12 of 17 free throws and finishing
with a team high 24 points.
The 12 wins this season are the most in 7 years for the
Lady Hornets. Chillicothe looks for revenge Saturday afternoon
when they take on Savannah in the opening round of Districts.
Chillicothe beat Savannah in the Savannah and Cameron
tournaments but lost the conference meeting on Chillicothe's
home court.
