(Story by Coach Lance Harvey)
The Lady Hornets soccer team was unable to
get their second win in two days, falling to Kansas City Lutheran
5-1 Tuesday night.
The Lady Knights came out fast as forward Sierra Grimm
scored in the fifth minute on a breakaway goal. They added to their
lead ten minutes later when Cez Redhage managed to find space behind
the Hornet defense and slid the ball past a diving Brooke Jettelson.
Chillicothe settled down though and used sound defense
to neutralize the speedy Grimm for the remainder of the half. They
went into halftime looking to make adjustments only down by a score
of 2-0.
The second half saw Chilli's offensive pressing further
into the Lutheran half of the field and their offensive pressure
paid off in the 50th minute when forward Miranda Mammen settled a
beautiful cross from Lindy Saunders and calmly put the ball into the
back of the net. The Lady Hornets momentum did not last long,
though. Three minutes later the Lady Knights Grimm made a run to
goal and took a shot that was deflected by Jettelson but the ensuing
rebound was put away by Lutheran's Kayler Schraeder.
Chillicothe's offense continued to put together some
nice runs but their shots sailed a bit high and they were unable to
net another goal. KC Lutheran added a couple of late goals when the
game was out of reach to set the 5-1 final score.
