Chillicothe 21, at Kirksville 15
<Game Pictures>
It took two stadiums, nearly four hours and late heroics
to give the Chillicothe Hornets a 21-15 win at Kirksville.
Chillicothe scored on their opening possession when
DeEll Midgyett scored the first of his three touchdowns on
the night on a five yard run. Wagner Chapman's PAT was
good for a 7-0 first quarter lead.
On the final play of the half, Kirksville's quarterback
threw a pass from his own end zone to no-man's land to try
and milk the clock out. However, the officials called it
intentional grounding from the end zone, and awarded
Chillicothe safety for a 9-0 halftime lead.
That would be it from the Kirksville High School Field
when the stadium field lights went out at halftime. After
a long delay the game was moved to Truman State
University's stadium for the second half. The change did
Kirksville good. They picked off a Chillicothe pass and a
few plays later scored to make it 9-7.
In the 4th Quarter it was more of the DeEll Midgyett
show when the Senior Halfback sprinted 85 yards for a
touchdown and a 15-7 lead.
Kirksville tied it up on a 11 yard pass for touchdown
and a 2 point conversion.
With 1:26 left in the tied game, Chillicothe's defense
stepped up and forced a punt from deep in Kirksville's own
territory. The snap was bad, the rush was on and an
attempted pass fell incomplete. Chillicothe took over at
the Kirksville 20 and on the first play Midgyett again
scored for a 21-15 lead
Kirksville completed a long pass down field for a first
down, but the next pass attempt was picked off by Senior
Cornerback Nick Meyers who returned it to mid field. One
kneel down play later, Chillicothe had the victory |
