In high school football, it takes 24 minutes to play one half.
For Chillicothe, they did decent except for the last 30
seconds in each half. In the end, that along with other
problems cost them a victory.
LeBlond's TJ Romesburg kicked a 27 yard field goal with
no time left in the game to give the Golden Eagles a 25-23
win. But that wasn't the whole story. LeBlond exploited
Chillicothe's lack of a solid pass defense by going 4 of 6 for
123 yards and 10 points in the final 2:21 of the game.
Chillicothe struggled in the first half, picking up
just one first down until DeEll Midgyett busted lose for a 67
yard run. Luke Plummer took it 12 yards to the end zone on the next play and
Chillicothe closed the game to 10-7 with 1:10 left in the
first half.
In a sign of things to come, LeBlond rattled off 7
plays for 60 yards in a minute to score with 16 seconds left
in the first half and a 16-7 halftime lead.
Chillicothe's offense clicked in the third quarter
scoring 10 points while the Hornets defense also did
well in the 3rd, allowing LeBlond just 6 plays and managed a
fumble recovery.
In the fourth quarter, DeEll Midgyett scored his second
touchdown with 2:21 left in the game for a 23-16 lead. LeBlond
answered with 3 completions in 3 attempts and finished an 80
yard drive with a 54 yard touchdown pass. The kick failed and
Chillicothe was up by one.
The Hornets failed to make a first down and punted with 26
seconds left. LeBlond hit a 43 yard pass, threw an
incompletion and threw a second incompletion in the end zone
from the 19 yard line but Chillicothe was called for pass
interference. LeBlond then kicked a 27 yard field goal with no
time left that just cleared the left upright, giving them the
win.
LeBlond QB Jack Schanze finished with 299 yards passing
and three touchdowns against a Hornets pass defense that
couldn't get any pressure on the quarterback. |
