Chillicothe Lady Hornets
lone Senior Hallee Jones was in kindergarten the last time Chillicothe beat
St Joseph Benton Lady Cardinals. 13 years later, the Lady
Hornets used solid team play to snap a 28 game losing skid
against Benton to win 44-39 at NCMC in Trenton.
The win was no fluke or lucky shot at the buzzer.. Benton hit the first basket
of the game but Chillicothe went on an 8-0 run and never
trailed again. Benton closed the lead to one point in the
fourth, but Chillicothe's Katelyn Parkey hit a deuce and was
fouled. She missed the free throw but Chillicothe grabbed the
rebound and Parkey hit a trey to put the Lady Hornets back up
by six points and take the steam out of the Lady Cardinals.
Chillicothe Sophomore Whitney Clampitt had the hot hand
in the first quarter with 9 of her team high 18 points in the
first quarter. Fellow Sophomore Parkey had the hot
hand down the stretch with 11 of her 17 points coming in the
4th quarter, including the key trey that put Chillicothe up by
6.
The Lady Hornets used 8 players and Coach Darrin Smith
said every one of them played a key role in the win. |
