Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Boys' Tennis Team (3-1) traveled to Richmond Tuesday to play the Spartans. Chillicothe without numbers one and three, Nate McKiddy and Lane Bonderer had FFA commitments, defeated Richmond 9-0. Seniors Brandon Lamp and Cody Evans stepped up and began the match with an 8-1 doubles victory against Brandon Hendricks and Tyler Boss. Brandon and Cody played several doubles matches together in 2015, including qualifying for sectionals. Max Anderson and Colton Webb moved up two spots in the rotation and were still able to knock off Dylan Ohrt and Colton Baker 8-1. Junior Jacob Hennington received his first varsity win with partner Steen Anthony, beating Grant Decker and Lennon Puls 8-2.
In singles, Brandon Lamp continued the momentum with an 8-1 win over Hendricks. Cody Evans hurried out to a quick 5-0, lead before holding off Boss for an 8-3 victory. Max Anderson defeated Ohrt 8-2 and Colton Webb won 8-1 over Baker. First year player Jacob Hennington, also won his first singles varsity match, 8-1 over Decker. Steen Anthony filed the only shut out of the match with an 8-0 win over Puls.
The wind made play difficult, but all of the Hornets made adjustments and solidified their victories. The team hosts St Joseph Benton on Monday, April 11 and then travels to St Joseph Bishop LeBlond on Wednesday, April 13 (schedule change).
