Hornets Wrestling
2/17-18/2016 State Wrestling - 17th Place

Day Three
Chillicothe Senior Aaron Baker came up one win short of his quest for a 132 pound State Wrestling Title, losing to an Oak Grove wrestler 11-8 in the championship match. Baker had beaten his opponent in the district semi-finals 13-3, but in the championship re-match his opponent changed strategy, making it difficult for Baker to rack up points by takedowns. With his second place finish, Baker became just the second Hornet wrestler in history to earn a state medal all four years.
Dean Atkins batted through the wrestlebacks to earn 5th place, beating a Fulton wrestler by pin to win 5th place. It was the same wrestler that beat Atkins in the quarterfinal match earlier in the tournament.
In the team standings, Chillicothe finished in 17th place with 35 points

Day Two
Chillicothe Senior Aaron Baker made it look easy, getting to the 132 pound finals at Class 2 state Wrestling. On Friday Baker won his quarterfinal match in the morning by pin in 5:56against a University city senior, then Friday night made short work of a MICDS Senior, pinning him in one minute. That vaulted Baker to the championship match against a familiar opponent, Shawn Kavadas of Oak Grove, last year's 120 pound champion that Baker beat in the District Semifinals. This evening, the two will battle again for the state championship.
Dean Adkins is guaranteed a medal, but it won't be a championship. The 170lb Junior lost his quarterfinal match 7-4, then bounced back to avenge an earlier loss by beating a Richmond wrestler 3-0 and then beat a Priory Junior 9-5 to advance to the medal round. Adkins wrestles this morning. A win means he will wrestle for 3rd, a loss means he will wrestle for 5th.
Kayde Burton saw his season come to an end with a 9-4 loss to Gerber of Cameron. The Hornet Sophomore ends the year at 42-12.
