(Story by Coach
Lance Harvey)
The Chillicothe Hornets soccer team
traveled to Savannah on Thursday and walked away with a 1-0 victory
in cold, blustery conditions.
The Hornets played into a strong north wind in the
first half and managed a couple of scoring opportunities but could
not find the back of the net. The defense was stout and was able to
shut down Savannah's offensive attack who had the wind at their
backs. The halftime score was 0-0.
In the second half the Hornets were able to generate
more offense and eventually in the 65th minute, Gracie Ellis pushed
a ball through an opening to an oncoming Harlie Jones who sent a
shot past the Savages goalkeeper. The rest of the half was back and
forth and Chilli's defense thwarted a furious last minute effort by
Savannah to score to preserve the 1-0 shutout.
Chillicothe's record moves to 3-1 as they prepare for
the Moberly tournament hosted next Friday. |
