Macon nailed five treys
and went 17 of 23 from the free throw line to edge Chillicothe 50-37
in Chillicothe. Macon led by five after the first quarter and 21-12
at the half. "We struggled on defense," stated Chillicothe coach
Karen Jackson. "They definately our rebounded us and had about 16
second chance points and that absolutely killed us."
In the third quarter Chillicothe trimmed an 11 point
deficit to four points. "On the offensive end, we were able to give
them some match up problems. We spread the floor a little which and
took some of their post players to the basket, but we didn't start
doing that until the second half" commented Jackson. The come back
fell short when Macon built an 11 point lead by the end of the
quarter.
Macon was led by Abby Rowland with 13 points and
Rachelle Butner with 11. Chillicothe was paced by Carole Jo Myers
with 12 points, including ten in the third quarter. "She's full of
energy, she sparked the third quarter surge we had off our press"
said Jackson.

Chillicothe took the
lead in the first quarter and went on to beat Moberly 45-34 at
Moberly. The difference in the game was at the Free Throw line,
where Chillicothe went 15 of 24 compared to 6 of 7 for the game for
Moberly. Moberly was whistled for 20 fouls for the game compared to
just eight against Chillicothe. The Lady Hornets had balanced
scoring led by Carole Jo Myers with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

ended the game on a 7-2 run to beat Chillicothe 46-41 in a
non-conference game in St Joseph. Chillicothe led by 2 points at the
half and by as many as 7 early in the third quarter before Lafayette
bounced back to tie it up at 32 at the end of the quarter. Lady
Hornets Coach Karen Jackson commented after the game that the lady
Hornets had their chances but missed too many shots in the paint. A
Morgan Quick basket midway thru the fourth quarter gave Chillicothe
a two point lead, but Chillicothe could manage just two free throws
the remainder of the game.

Lady Hornets led by as many as five points in the second quarter,

buzzer gave the Lady Savages a four point lead that Chillicothe
could not overcome.

Chillicothe came from 13 points down in
the 4th quarter to upset Lawson in overtime. Chillicothe jumped to
an early six-nothing lead in the game and led 14-6 after one. Lawson
came back to tie the game at half and went on a 19-3 run in the late
third and early fourth quarters to lead by 13 points early in the
fourth. Chillicothe answered with their own 16-1 run to take a two
point lead. Lawson tied the game in the final seconds to send it to
overtime. Chillicothe scored first on two free throws then held on
for the win. The Lady Hornets went 13 of 16 at the free throw line

Kirksville 46-34 at home. Kirksville traded baskets with Chillicothe

and early 2nd quarter was too much for

to overcome. Chillicothe benefited early and often from Kirksville
turnovers and Chillicothe steals to build the early lead. While
Kirksville tied the game twice in the opening minutes, they never
led in the contest. Chillicothe was on top 16-4 after one, 27-16 at

Chillicothe played three strong quarters but fell on hard times in
the fourth quarter, falling to second seeded St Joseph Benton 48-32
in the opening round of the Kearney Tournament. The teams were tied
at eight apiece after one before Benton lit up the second quarter
with four treys to lead by ten at the half. Chillicothe closed the
game to with in two points late in the third before Benton ended on
a 5-0 run to lead by seven points. Chillicothe hit a free throw
early in the fourth, but was shut out the rest of the game.
Benton was led by 5'10" Sophomore Karli Sample
with 10 points all in the second half. Sample did not play the first
half due to a problem with her uniform. Chillicothe faces Excelsior
Springs on Wednesday at 7:30pm. 6th seed Odessa upset Excelsior
Springs in the first round.

Excelsior Springs 46 – 35 in the consolation semifinals of the
Kearney Tournament. Excelsior Springs hit two treys to start the
game and led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter before
Chillicothe got on track. The lady Hornets used pressure defense and
free throw shooting to take a 24-14 lead at the half. In the first
half, Excelsior Springs had 21 turnovers and committed 15 fouls.
Chillicothe was 15 of 23 from the free throw line in the first half
and finished the game 24 of 38 at the charity stripe. The Lady
Hornets forced 30 turnovers and out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 51 to
33. Leanne Mathew led Chillicothe with 14 points, going 14 of 18 at

Chillicothe Senior Holly Williams hit a trey in the first quarter to
give Chillicothe a one point lead that they would never give up in
route to a 58-49 win for the Consolation Trophy in the Kearney
Tournament. The trey sparked a 12-0 run that gave Chillicothe a 10
point lead at one point in the first quarter. Chillicothe Senior
Carole Myers had 10 of her game high 20 points to spark a third
quarter that saw Chillicothe lead by as many as 19 points. Lafayette
closed the game to 13 by the end of the quarter and got to with-in 7
points with possession of the basketball in the 4th but could get no
closer. The Lady Irish suffered from poor shooting, including just
3-of-22 from behind the arc.

The Chillicothe Lady
Hornets missed a short jump shot at the buzzer and fell to the
Lawson Lady Cardinals 51-50 in the opening round of the Cameron
tournament. In a wild finish, Lawson hit three free throws to take a
4 point lead with less than 30 seconds left. Chillicothe’s Holly
Williams hit a left-wing trey with two defenders in her face to pull
to with in one point followed by an immediate time out with just
under a second left. Lawson’s inbounds pass went out of bounds,
giving Chillicothe the ball under their own basket with 9/10ths of a
second left. Chillicothe ran the play perfectly, getting the ball to
a wide-open shooter two feet in front of the basket but the shot
failed to go in, giving Lawson the victory.
Chillicothe led by 3 points at the half and by as many
as 9 points midway thru the third quarter before Lawson came back to
tie the game early in the 4th. A five point lead by
Chillicothe midway thru the 4th quarter was answered by a
7-0 run by Lawson, who never gave up the lead the rest of the game.

The Chillicothe Varsity Girls Basketball team went on a 15-0 run in
the 2nd quarter to beat the St Joseph Benton Junior
Varsity 52-38 in the consolation semifinals of the Cameron
Tournament. After a see-saw first quarter, Chillicothe opened up a
13 point lead in the 2nd quarter and never trailed again,
leading by as many as 15 points in the second half. Chillicothe
improves to 8-7 and will play for the Cameron Tournament consolation
trophy Friday at 5:00pm

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets went on a 12-0

beat Cameron 42-36 to win the consolation game of the Cameron
Tournament. Chillicothe led by single digits thru part of the first
and entire second quarters to lead by two at the half. After a back
and forth third quarter, Chillicothe went on their run to take an 11
point lead midway thru the fourth quarter. Cameron closed it to with
in five points but could get no closer while the Lady Hornets ran
time off the clock with their flex-offense game plan.

For two and a half quarters, the Chillicothe lady hornets traded
lead changes with Smithville but a slump in the 3rd
quarter ended up costing Chillicothe a 60-48 conference loss at
Smithville. The game was tied at 12 after the first quarter and
Chillicothe held a 30-29 lead at the half. The see-saw battle
continued into the third quarter until Chillicothe had some key
turnovers and missed shots, allowing Smithville to build a 9 point
lead which Chillicothe couldn’t recover. The Lady Hornets got to
with-in three points midway thru the fourth quarter but could get no
further. Late free throws and two uncontested and unnecessary
baskets in the final 20 seconds accounted for the 12 point
Smithville win in a game that was closer than the final score
indicated.

could never get on track. Savannah led 14-4 after the first quarter
and 37-11 at the half. The lady Savages led by as many as 32 points
in the fourth quarter and hit a total of nine treys in the game.

The
Chillicothe Lady Hornets managed just one field goal in the final
one and a half quarters, losing to Maryville at home 41-34.
Chillicothe led 8-6 after one and trailed by just three points at
the half. Chillicothe opened up a five point lead midway thru the
third quarter before turning cold the rest of the game. Despite a
lack of scoring, Chillicothe tied the game twice in the fourth
quarter but could never regain the lead.

crowd. Cameron took a 3rd quarter lead but an 11-0
Chillicothe run in the late 3rd and early 4th
quarter gave them a five point lead and they never trailed again.
Chillicothe went 21 of 26 at the free throw line to help in the win.

Lafayette)
Savannah used hot
shooting and a stingy defense to beat Chillicothe 65-33 in the
opening round of the Class 4 District 16 tournament. Chillicothe
used the free throw line to keep pace in the first quarter, trailing
just 12-9 but cold shooting by the lady Hornets found them trailing
at the half 32-18. Chillicothe managed just three field goals in the
first half. Chillicothe finished 18 of 23 at the free throw line but
had just 7 field goals including one trey. Chillicothe will lost
seven seniors of this year's squad.

Lady Hornets were named to the Midland Empire Conference Honorable
Mention team: Seniors holly Williams and Carole Myers and Sophomore
Leanne Mathew. At the annual Awards Banquet, the Coaches Award went
to Brooklyn Shearer, the Hustle Award to Morgan Quinn, the
rebounding Award to Carole Myers and Free Throw Award to Leanne
Mathew who made 74 of 94 for 78.72%, which is the 3rd best Season
Free Throw Percentage in school history.
