Maryville 20, at Chillicothe 18

A touchdown on an un-timed down and a lack of extra point conversions gave Maryville a 20-18 Midland Empire Conference win at Chillicothe, making it the first season opening game Chillicothe has lost in 20 years. Maryville gave Chillicothe field possession in the first quarter, allowing Chillicothe to score on a 40 yard drive in the Hornets first series and on a 26 yard drive in their 2nd series, thanks to poor Maryville punts.
Maryville responded with a a 74 yard screen pass from Andy Walter to Adam Mattson at the end of the 1st Quarter. Time ran out in the 1st quarter on the previous play but a penalty flag gave Maryville the extra play they needed to close to with in 12-7 after the first quarter. Maryville had a 1st and goal at the two yard line but lost the ball on a fumble two plays later. The Spoofhounds wouldn't be denied, scoring on a Walter 11 yard run in the 2nd and a Jeremy Davis one yard plunge in the 3rd to take a 20-12 lead.
Chillicothe responded in the 4th with a 9-play, 63 yard drive capped on a 4th and goal one yard run by Quarterback Tyler Trammell, but the Junior Quarterback couldn't duplicate the feat on the two-point conversion and Chillicothe trailed 20-18 with 5:11 left in the game. The Hornets stopped a Maryville drive with 1:13 left in the game on their own 32 yard line, but two incomplete passes and a Maryville interception on 3rd down gave Maryville just their 10th win over Chillicothe in 43 meetings between the schools, and the first Maryville win over Chillicothe Football since 2000.

Chillicothe 39 at St Joseph Benton 19

Chillicothe rolled up four touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to beat St Joseph Benton 39-19 in a Midland Empire Conference game. Benton scored first in the 1st quarter on a 51 yard Punt Return by Tyson Stewart. Following a sluggish 1st quarter, Chillicothe started the 2nd quarter with a 56 yard Clint Singleton touchdown run to tie the game with 11:23 left in the 1st half. The Hornets put together a 10 play drive late in the 2nd quarter that was capped by a Clint Dysart 11 yard run to lead 27-6 at the half.
In the 3rd Quarter, Defensive Tackle Nathan Followwill lived a lineman's dream by intercepting a Benton pass. Two plays later Dysart had his 2nd touchdown of the night on a seven yard run to make the game 33-6. The Hornets turned sloppy, losing fumbles on the first play of consecutive drives. Benton Senior Quarterback John Warner and the Benton spread offense went to the air late in the 3rd for a 43 yard touchdown pass to Trynon Bigham and a 31 yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter to Terell Gray. The Hornets wrapped up the scoring in the final 30 seconds on a Brett Stephens 17 yard run.

Chillicothe 12 at St Joseph Lafayette 6

Chillicothe scored with 6:21 left in the game to beat Lafayette in a game filled with turnovers and penalties. Chillicothe threw three interceptions, lost two fumbles and had 80 yards of penalties while Lafayette threw two interceptions and had 11 penalties for 85 yards including several that negated long gains.
Chillicothe scored first with :51 left in the 1st on an 11 play 80 yard drive capped by a Clint Dysart eight yard run. The extra point was wide right. Lafayette responded with a nine-play 56 yard drive capped with 9:50 left in the half on a shuttle pass from Jake Davis to Cody Miller from eight yards away. The extra point was no good.
The two teams fought through turnovers and penalties in the 3rd and early 4th quarters before Cory Lowe dropped the Lafayette Quarterback for a ten yard loss, forcing  Lafayette to punt. Chillicothe took over on the 44 yard line when Kyle Dosterschill rambled 25 yards on the first play. Seven plays later Dosterschill ran it in from one yard out on 4th down to give Chillicothe the 12-6 win at Lafayette to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In a strange statistic, Chillicothe Quarterback Tyler Trammell's first pass of the night was tipped by a Lafayette lineman back into Trammell's hands, giving Trammell a completion to himself for a loss of 6 yards. Trammell completed only one other pass, a 21 yard pass to Colin Parker which Lafayette thought was incomplete. A 15 yard penalty on the Lafayette sideline kept the drive alive, only to be ended by an interception three plays later.

Platte County 21 at Chillicothe 13

Platte County scored late in the 4th quarter to escape Chillicothe with a hard-fought 21-13 Midland Empire Conference win. The 2nd ranked Pirates used a strong passing attack and big plays to secure the victory. After a defensive struggle the first quarter, Platte County scored in a two play drive in the opening 15 seconds of the 2nd quarter when Jake Crawford found Nick Maxwell for a 55 yard touchdown strike. Following the kick off, play was stopped for nearly an hour and a half due to lightening.
Chillicothe found life late in the 2nd quarter when they engineered a nine-play 72 yard drive capped by a Kyle Dosterschill three yard run to tie the game at the half.
In the 3rd Quarter, Platte County went to the air again when Crawford found All-State Receiver Kyle Knox for a 29 yard touchdown on 4th down to take a 14-7 lead. Following a Colin Parker interception, Chillicothe responded with a Clint Singleton 66 yard run three plays later to move to within one point.
Platte County put together a ten-play 56 yard drive that took six minutes off the 4th quarter clock. The drive ended when tailback Tucker Smith plunged in from four yards out for the winning score. Chillicothe returned the ball to near mid-field but threw four straight incomplete passes to end their chance at a comeback. Platte County improves to 4-0 while Chillicothe falls to 2-2.

Chillicothe 45 at Savannah 7

Chillicothe recorded three interceptions and three fumble recoveries to roll over the Savages on the road. Kyle Dosterschill picked off Travis Partridge on the 4th play of the game on the 33 yard line and nine-plays later, Clint Singleton ran it in from five yards out to give Chillicothe a 6-0 lead. A nine-play 74 yard drive ended with a Dosterschill six yard run with :47 seconds left in the half to give the Hornets a 33-0 halftime lead.
Chillicothe didn't let up when Clint Singleton took the 2nd half kick-off 92 yards for a touchdown, the 3rd longest kick off return in school history. Dosterschill scored his 3rd touchdown of the night on a nine yard run with 8:31 left in the game giving Chillicothe a 45-0 lead. Chillicothe cleared the benches for the rest of the game. at Smithville 9, Chillicothe 6

Chillicothe had a 1st and goal at the 5 yard line late in the game but failed to score and lost 9-6 in front of a huge Smithville Homecoming crowd. Chillicothe's Cory Lowe blocked his 2nd punt of the game with 4:15 left to give Chillicothe the ball at the 15 yard line. The Hornets picked up a first and goal at the five, but suffered a 5 yard flag, a two yard gain then an intentional grounding penalty followed by another incomplete pass gave Chillicothe a 4th down on the 15. A 33 yard field goal attempt with less than a minute left just missed wide right to give Smithville the win.
The night was a defensive stand off for both teams, with Chillicothe picking up just 151 total yards and Smithville 155 total yards. The Warriors scored first when a 13 play 58 yard drive ended with 49 seconds left in the 1st quarter on a Cruiser Nichols 28 yard field goal to lead 3-0 at the half. Smithville expanded the lead on a two yard touchdown by Tyler Hiatt. The drive started on the 36 after Chillicothe shanked a 7 yard punk out of bounds. The Warriors were flagged on the first play but then turned in their biggest play of the night on a 44 yard pass to Jeremiah Mead down to the 2 yard line. The extra point just missed and Smithville lead 9-0 with 11:15 left in the game.
Chillicothe took the opening kick off and drove 67 yards in 12 plays that ended with a Tyler Trammell 3 yard quarterback keeper. A Smithville penalty on the extra point allowed Chillicothe to go for two, but came up short.
Both teams had opportunities, with Smithville picking off a Tyler Trammell pass  in the 2nd quarter and a fumble on a blown pitch play late in the 2nd quarter, but failed to convert either one into points. Chillicothe's Cory Lowe had two blocked punts in the 2nd half, but Chillicothe also failed to convert either into points. Both teams now stand at 3-3 overall.

at Chillicothe 33, Cameron 15 Homecoming

Chillicothe used the pass, the run, the quick strike and the time consuming drive to beat Cameron 33-15 in front of a packed crowd at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium. Chillicothe took the opening kick off and drove 78 yards in 9 plays that ended with a 50 yard pass from Tyson Blattner to Tommy Hargrave. Conner Lindley kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Blattner started the game for an injured Tyler Trammell and finished  4/8 for 148 yards passing, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Cameron answered Chillicothe's drive with a nine-play 70 yard drive of their own, with the final two plays being carries of 27 yards and 18 yards by M.E.C. Track Champion Brandon Tunks. A trick extra point pass play gave Cameron an 8-7 lead with 4:41 left in the 1st quarter. Following a stop on 4th and 6, Chillicothe went 71 yards in 3 plays that ended with Blattner's second touchdown pass of the night, this one going for 69 yards when he hit Clint Singleton in full stride across the middle. The conversion run failed and with 7:28 left in the 2nd Chillicothe had a 13-8 lead. The Hornets then went to the ball controlled offense, taking 5:14 off the clock on an 11 play, 54 yard drive that ended with 41 seconds left in the half on a Clint Dysart six yard run. Lindley's kick was good and Chillicothe led 20-8 at intermission.
Cameron took the 2nd half kick off 63 yards in six plays that ended with a eight yard run by Quarterback Sean Skilling. The kick was good and Chillicothe's lead was cut to 20-15. Chillicothe's defense stepped up again at the end of the 3rd quarter when they sacked Skilling for a three yard loss on 3rd and two, forcing a Cameron punt. On the second play, Bryce Young found Clint Singleton down the sidelines for a 71 yard halfback pass for touchdown. The kick was good and it was a 27-15 Chillicothe lead early in the 4th quarter.
Chillicothe's defense stepped up again, forcing Cameron to go three and out. The Hornets took over on the 44 yard line and ran nearly eight minutes off the clock on a 14 play, 56 yard drive that ended with Clint Dysart punching it in from two yards out with 20 seconds left to put the exclamation point in the final score of 33-15. Dysart carried the ball off right tackle for 12 of the 14 plays in the drive. Chillicothe ends the conference season 4-3 and heads to Odessa (5-2) for the opening of District play. Chillicothe scored on their opening drive on a Bryce Young 45 yard scamper to lead 7-0.

Sophomore Bryce Young scored the first three touchdowns to help the Chillicothe Hornets beat Richmond 49-0 at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium. It took Chillicothe a couple of offensive series to get on track, but following a Tommy Hargrave interception of a tipped Richmond pass, Chillicothe used just three plays to go 46 yards that ended with a Bryce Young 27 yard score with 5:35 left in the 1st Quarter. Following a three and out series by Richmond, the Hornets took just three plays to score again, this time on a Young 30 yard run with 2:43 left in the 1st Quarter.
Chillicothe put together their longest drive of the game to start the 2nd Quarter, a 6 play 78 yard drive that ended with a Tyler Trammell to Bryce Young 52 yard pass for a touchdown with 9:22 left in the first half. Conner Lindley's extra point made it 21-0. Chillicothe found pay dirt one more time in the first half. Following a 16 yard Clint Singleton run and a 14 yard Kyle Dosterschill run, Trammell went to the air for his second touchdown on the night, a 19 yard strike to a wide open Colin Parker in the end zone to make it 28-0 at the half.
After forcing Richmond to another three and out series to start the 3rd Quarter, Chillicothe engineered a quick 26 yard drive that ended on a Trammel two yard run. Lindley's 5th extra point gave Chillicothe a 35-0 lead and a continuous clock. Senior Tyson Blattner picked off a Richmond pass on their first play to give Chillicothe a first down on the 42 yard line. Eight plays later, Sophomore Brett Stephens took it in from three yards out. Chillicothe's final score came in the 4th quarter when Sophomore Quincy Johnson ran it in from 45 yards out.
Richmond was held to just 2 first downs in the first half and was held to under 100 yards of total offense. Chillicothe improves to 5-4 on the season and Richmond falls to 3-6 on the year. Chillicothe hosts Boonville on Thursday November 1st.
