Chillicothe 18, Savannah 0
Chillicothe started fast and never let up, beating Savannah 18-0
in four and one half innings in the Hornets baseball home opener.
Chillicothe's first three batters all scored to start the game, then
the Hornets exploded for eight runs in the second inning. "I was
very pleased with our focus before and during the game" stated Coach
Dave Mapel. "The guys kept talking about the finish and not to be
content with what we've done up to that point."
Chillicothe was led by lead off man Clint Singleton
(Sr.) who went 2 for 4 with a home run, single and three RBIs.
"Clint Singleton and Bryce Young hit shots that cleared the left
field fence; although Clint's was the only one of the two that
stayed fair." commented Mapel. "I was pleased with our hitting. the
technique we're working on is still developing but it showed with
the shots that came off the bats of some of our guys."
Also picking up hits were doubles from Correy Miller
and Austin Harlow and singles from Alex Singleton, Tyson Blattner,
Colin Parker, Jacob Rockhold and Bryce Young. Also picking up RBIs
were two for Alex Singleton, Tyson Blattner, Clayton Dahlberg, Colin
Parker, Correy Miller and Jacob Rockhold, and one for Austin Harlow
and Bryce Young. At the plate, Correy Miller picked up the win and
Zach Dunn the save, combining to allow just four hits.
"I thought we were relaxed and played with confidence
and determination. We turned two double-plays and nearly had two or
three more. That's not bad considering that we've only had one week
practicing on a field, able to work on defense" said Coach Mapel.
Savannah was led by Pat Kelley with 2 singles, and Lee
McFadden and Jared Dewey with 1 single each.
