Oct. 3 *Chillicothe 28 at Maryville 27
In a series historically decided by special teams play, the Chillicothe Hornets Kyle Dosterschill blocked a Maryville extra point to win 28-27 at Maryville. Chillicothe jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, only to have Maryville return the kick off for a touchdown then complete an 82 yard pass to set up their next score and tie the game at 14 in the 1st quarter. Chillicothe responded with a 30 yard touchdown pass, then recovered a Maryville fumble on an on-sides squib kick. The Hornets punched it in 9 plays later to lead 28-14 at the half.
Maryville scored on their opening drive of the 3rd quarter and again 5 minutes later to close the game to 28-27 when Hornets Senior Tommy Hargrave blocked the point after attempt.
Maryville had one more chance on a 3rd and 5 at the 25 but a 5 yard loss left them 4th and ten. A 47 yard field goal attempt failed to make it to the end zone. The Hornets Colin Parker fielded the errant kick and returned it to mid field. Chillicothe failed to pick up a first down, but a punt to the 4 yard line with 1:31 left Maryville pinned deep in their own territory. On a 3rd and 7, Maryville with one time out left spiked the ball to stop the clock. On fourth down a screen pass went for no gain, giving Chillicothe the win to improve to 6-0 overall. Maryville falls to 5-1.
Chillicothe Junior Halfback Bryce Young was the work horse for Chillicothe, with 148 yards and one touchdown rushing, 93 yards and one touchdown receiving and 26 yards passing. He also scored two of Chillicothe's four touchdowns.

Oct 10th *at Chillicothe 49, St Joseph Lafayette 7

Chillicothe Junior Halfback Bryce Young rushed 9 times for 253 yards and three touchdowns, and completed his only pass for 3 yards and a touchdown to help the Hornets roll over St Joseph Lafayette 49-7. Young's 253 yards was the fifth best single game performance in Hornets history. It took Chillicothe most of the first quarter to get on track, after missing a 32 yard field goal on their opening drive, and failing on a fourth and one at the 40 on their second drive. The Hornets finally found the end zone on their third drive when Young scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 68 yard run. Lafayette tied the game in the second quarter on a drive set up by a long fumble return by Matt Robertson, but Chillicothe scored the next 42 points of the game.
Chillicothe led 28-7 at the half and 35-7 after three quarters. 19 members of the 1978 Chillicothe State Championship Team along with two coaches were honored at halftime of the Homecoming game. With the win, Chillicothe improves to 7-0 on the season and faces Savannah in the opening round of Districts on Friday
