Chillicothe had
problems shaking off the pre-season rust and lost at macon 3-1. The
Hornets began the game with two errors against the Macon leadoff
hitter, allowing him to reach base on a muffed ground ball then
moving him into scoring position on a wild pickoff throw. He later
scored off a double from Macon's Austin Clapp. One of Macon's two
scores came on another of the team's four errors.
Junior Southpaw Justin VanHoutan took the loss with
Chase Fantazia in relief "I was really impressed" said Hornets coach
Dave Mapel. "He had good control and threw a lot of first pitch
strokes. He also had a pretty good curve working that kept the Macon
hitters off balance." However, Mapel felt he should of pulled him
after the fourth inning.
Offensively, Mapel said the team put the ball in play
but made a couple of costly mistakes that took base runners away.
