9/03/09 Boys Soccer
at Hannibal 11, Chillicothe 1

Five players out with sickness and injury, a bus trip across the state, and a state ranked opponent combined to give the Chillicothe Boys Soccer team an 11-1 setback. The game was called with 13 minutes remaining due to the ten-run mercy rule.
The Hornets are without Clark Allen who suffered a preseason knee injury, Connor Ruoff who suffered a broken foot unrelated to soccer, Austin Ireland who suffered a foot injury in the Fulton game, Colton Whiteside who became ill on the trip to Hannibal and Laine Saunders who injured his ankle in the first minutes of the game. Hornets coach Bill Allison tried to be positive. "This makes a very difficult game even more so, but it allows a lot of game time for others and each of them gaining experience" he stated.
Chillicothe's lone goal came from Grant Peterson in the 38th minute, assisted by Brice Griffin. The State ranked Hannibal Pirates had six different players find the scoring mark and had 24 shots on goal to Chillicothe's three shots, keeping Goalkeeper Troy Toadebusch on his toes with 13 saves. "Toadebusch is one bright spot so far, as the keeper and improving with each game and gaining valuable experience" commented Allison, who also pointed to Josh Williams at left defensive side and Griffin with the assist and right defensive side play.
