10/31/09 Cross
Country
District Meet at Moberly |
Three Chillicothe runners are headed to the MSHSAA Cross Country
Championships thanks to their strong finish at Moberly. The team
finished 4th in the boys standings out of 10 complete teams.
Individually, Daniel Riekena finished 10th and Thomas Cassity 14th
to qualify for the state meet for their first time. On the girls
side, Mary Kate Taylor finished 3rd to qualify for the state meet
for her 3rd straight season. Coach Tim Riekena called the course
very soft and wet. "even walking on it was spongy. All times were
slower than normal."
Riekena was impressed by his runners performances.
"Finishing 4th out of 10 complete teams is much better than most
people might have given us credit for" proclaimed Riekena. "While I
am proud of our accomplishments, this team has always strived to do
better. This past week, even the JV runners whose season ended over
a week ago have made practice. They are a joy to work with."
The top two boys teams and top two girls teams all
advance to the state team competition.
