11/7/09 Cross Country
State Meet

Chillicothe's Mary Kate Taylor finished 15th out of 171 runners to earn All-State honors at the MSHSAA Cross Country meet. Taylor finished the course in 21:07 and ran what Coach Tim Riekena called her best race of her career. "She didn't start out too fast and had her place established well before the two-mile mark. She had a game plan and she stuck to it." Taylor's 15th place finish was the highest finish for any Chillicothe Girls Cross Country runner in history. A Clinton runner won the individual title in a time of 19:49 on the Jefferson City course.
On the boys side, Daniel Riekena finished 76th in a time of 18:45 and Thomas Cassity finished 116th in a time of 19:26. Both competed at the state meet for the first time. Coach Riekena felt his runners competed well in  the event. "Both Riekena and Cassity established their position by the mile mark. It was good to see them finish ahead of some of the same runners that had beat them at districts."
The Class 3 Boys race on the tough hilly course was delayed nearly 40 minutes due to all the heat related problems in the previous race
