8/28/09 - at Chillicothe 24, Marshall 7
Chillicothe
had a penalty and lost two fumbles in their first four snaps,
but battled back to down Marshall 24-7 at Jerry Litton
Memorial Stadium. The Hornets had a penalty on their first play of
the game, fumbled on the 2nd play,
then after holding Marshall to 3 plays and punt, fumbled again on
the second play of their next possession. Despite being given the
ball on the Chillicothe 34 and the Chillicothe 47, Marshall failed
to pick up a first down in either possession.
Chillicothe put together a 17 point second quarter when
they scored on all three drives. Blake Brose recovered a Marshall
fumble on the first play of the second quarter to set up the first
of two Brett Stephens 6 yard touchdowns. The Hornets Connor Lindley
kicked a 26 yard field goal to round out the scoring in the first
half. Marshall managed just 17 yards in the first half before ending
the half with two carries for 31 yards.
The Owls started the second half with an eight minute
thirty second drive capped by a Matt Jacobs three yard run.
Chillicothe answered with their own 11 play drive that ended with a
Jared McCauslin to Bryce Young 15 yard touchdown early in the fourth
quarter. After holding Marshall, Chillicothe ran out the clock for
the win.
Fullback Brett Stephens led Chillicothe with 11 carries
for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Bryce Young had 14 carries for 80
yards and caught 3 passes for 48 yards.
