- Chillicothe 21, at Odessa 13
Chillicothe
put together a strong second quarter then hung on in the
second half to beat Odessa on the road 21-13. Odessa put
together an opening drive that stalled at midfield after 10
plays and six and a half minutes. Chillicothe took over at the
14 yard line and scored 12 plays later on a Bryce Young 16
yard run on the last play of the first half. Connor Lindley's
kick was good for a 7-0 lead.
Chillicothe's defense took over in the second half, holding
Odessa to three plays and punt. The Hornets engineered a 6
play 57 yard drive that ended midway through the second quarter
with a 31 yard pass from Jared McCauslin to Bryce Young.
Lindley's kick was good for a 14-0 score. The Hornets defense
again held Odessa to three plays and punt, then drove 51 yards
in 9 plays capped by Brett Stephens 1 yard dive with 14
seconds left to lead 21-0 at the half.
Chillicothe returned the second half kick off to the 27
yard line then made the first of two mistakes that led to
Odessa scores. On the first play of the second half, Odessa's
Brandon Kleoppel picked off a Jared McCauslin pass across the
middle to give Odessa a first down at the 33 yard line.
Nine plays later Kyle Whited punched it in from 2 yards out to
close the game to 21-7.
Chillicothe took the kick off and drove down to the 23
yard line before the drive stalled. After holding Odessa to
three plays and punt, Chillicothe failed to get a drive going.
A long snap in quick-kick formation skidded along the ground,
giving Odessa the ball on the 44 yard line. Ten plays later
Whited scored from one yard out but the extra point failed,
Narrowing Chillicothe's lead to 21-13 with 7:37 left in the
game.
Odessa had one last chance with 5:00 left in the game
but failed to convert on a fourth and four, giving Chillicothe
the ball and allowing the Hornets to run out the clock.
