- Chillicothe 49, St Joseph Benton 7
Homecoming King -
Bryce Young, Queen: Shannon Baker
It took Chillicothe exactly 2 minutes and four plays to score
their first touchdown in route to a 21 point first quarter and
a 49-7 romp over St Joseph Benton before a jam packed Litton
Stadium. Bryce Young scampered 44 yards for the first score of
the game. After forcing Benton to three plays and punt, the
Hornets Nick Plummer, starting in place of Brett Stephens at
Fullback, scored the first of three touchdowns on a 5 yard
run.
After forcing Benton to three plays and punt for the
second straight time, Chillicothe took just 3 plays to go 42
yards, the final 5 by Josh Rockhold. Benton was their own
worst enemy in the first quarter, racking up 30 yards in
penalties in just the first 12 minutes.
Benton's only scoring drive of the game came in the
start of the second quarter when they drove 55 yards in 12
plays that ended with a 4 yard touchdown pass. The 55 yard
drive accounted for nearly half of the Cardinals total yards
for the night.
The Hornets wasted little time, scoring twice more
before the half on a pair of Plummer runs to lead 35-7 at the
halftime.
Benton stumbled out of the second half gate, going
three and out to start the third quarter. The Cardinals failed
to pick up a first down in six of their eight drives on the
night, while Chillicothe punted just once in the game.
The Hornets scored on a perfect Jared McCauslin pass to
Alex Thompson, who caught it in full stride for a 53 yard
touchdown in the 3rd quarter to force the running clock on the
hapless Benton Cardinals.
Chillicothe sent their reserves in most of the fourth
quarter against the Benton starters, and scored their final
touchdown on a 3 yard run by Sophomore Connor Dixon.
In the game, Benton could muster just 5 first downs. |
