- Chillicothe 35, at St Joseph Lafayette 6
Chillicothe used a 90 yard fumble return, the kicking of
Connor Lindley and field position to beat Lafayette on the
road. Chillicothe managed just 54 yards rushing but finished
with
117 yards passing in the game.
Lafayette started the game recovering their own
on-sides kick. Five plays later an Irish touchdown was called back
for a penalty and five plays after that, Bryce Young recovered
a fumble in mid-air and raced 90 yards untouched for the first
score of the game. Lafayette picked up just
one more 1st down the rest of the half.
Chillicothe scored on their next drive on a 28 yard
Lindley field goal. The Senior kicker booted a 38
yard field goal in the first half and 39 yard field goal in
the second half to become the first kicker in Hornets
history to kick three field goals in one game.
Down 19-0, Lafayette took the second half opening drive 80
yards down the field for their only score of the game.
Chillicothe's Brett
Stephens caught the ensuing on-sides kick off in mid air and
raced 60 yards to the end zone, however a block in the back
penalty brought the ball back to the 13 yard line. Five plays
later Stephens had his second touchdown on the night.
Jared McCauslin finished the night going 8/15 for 111
yards and a 12 yard touchdown to Bryce Young. Young also
completed his only pass attempt for six yards.
Lafayette's D. J. Adams was intercepted twice in the
second half, including one with just seconds left in the game.
Chillicothe benefited from good field position all night, with
their worst field position on the night starting on their own
43 yard line.
Chillicothe is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in MEC play, tied for
second place in the conference. Only winless St Joseph LeBlond
stands between Maryville and the Midland Empire Conference
crown. |
