A balanced, ball control offense led to three Brett Stephens
touchdowns to help the Chillicothe Hornets down Cameron 26-7
in a Senior night game. Chillicothe took the opening kick off
and went 73 yards in 14 plays, taking 7:56 off the clock for
their first score. After holding Cameron to three plays and
punt, the Hornets struck through the air with a 51 yard
touchdown from Jared McCauslin to Alex Thompson to lead 13-0
at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Hornets held Cameron on a 4th and 1 at the 11 yard line
in the 2nd quarter, then started to drive down field. The
drive stopped when Cameron picked off a McCauslin pass at the
2 yard line with 10 seconds left in the half. Chillicothe ran
30 offensive plays to Cameron's 18 in the first half.
The Hornets continued their dominance in the second half.
After trading punts, Josh Rockhold picked off Cameron's Zach
Way at the 25 yard line. Five plays later Chillicothe was up
19-0.
Cameron's lone spark in the game came on the ensuing
kick off, returning it 98 yards for their only touchdown on
the night. Chillicothe was unfazed by the score, marching 66
yards in 13 plays that ended with Stephen's 3rd touchdown on
the night.
Chillicothe's Zach Douglas played a key roll in the
fourth quarter, snuffing out two Cameron drives with
interceptions. Chillicothe had the football more than twice as
long as Cameron by a 32:14 to 15:46 time of possession margin.
Chillicothe also ran 64 plays to Cameron's 37 plays. With the district win, Chillicothe and Cameron
are now both 7-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. |
